A lasting memory that I have of Dan is my experience with him in his campaigns
for class president. Dan asked me to serve as his campaign
manager. I really enjoyed being able to help in his efforts. The thing that
really stays with me about this is the way he conducted himself. To me, what
was the point? Who brought us together the way he could? Who was the friend
of everyone, no matter who they were, no matter what they did? Who had the respect
of all of his peers? Even though I saw him as a shoe-in, Dan never assumed that
success would be a given. He always campaigned to the end, never counting on
anything, never having arrogance about his position. He ran a clean, honest
campaign, with full effort through and through. Honorable, selfless, and unassuming.
How many of us today can still learn from this?
